Cedar hot tub on a custom built deck with Hudson Valley forest and sunlight

We build hot tub decking throughout the Hudson Valley — from simple cedar step systems to full wraparound platforms integrated into your existing outdoor space. Every deck is designed around your specific tub and site.

Why the decking matters

The tub and deck
should be one thing

Most hot tub decking is an afterthought — generic boards assembled after the tub arrives. We design the deck as part of the overall installation, ensuring the height, material, and layout complement both the tub and your property.

We use the same cedar species we build our tubs from, so the materials age together. Over time, both the tub and the deck develop the same silver-grey patina — a look that only gets better with the seasons.

Materials

Built to last
in any climate

Hudson Valley winters are hard on outdoor materials. We only use decking materials proven to perform in four-season conditions.

Western Red Cedar

Matches your tub exactly. Naturally rot-resistant and aromatic. Ages to a beautiful silver-grey patina.

Ipe hardwood

Extremely dense Brazilian hardwood. Near-maintenance-free. Darker tone contrasts beautifully with natural cedar.

Composite decking

Low-maintenance option for clients who want minimal upkeep. Available in tones that complement cedar finishes.

Bluestone & natural stone

For ground-level or partially recessed installations. Popular in the Hudson Valley estate and farm property market.

Common questions

Hot tub decking
questions answered

Can you add decking to an existing installation?

Yes. We regularly add or upgrade decking around existing tubs. Contact us with photos of your current setup and we'll scope the project at a site visit.

How long does a decking build take?

Most step systems and surrounds are completed in one to two days. Full platform decks may take three to five days depending on size and complexity.

What's the best wood for a hot tub deck?

Western red cedar is our first recommendation — it matches the tub, is naturally rot-resistant, and ages beautifully. Ipe is best if you want near-zero maintenance and maximum longevity.

Do I need a permit for hot tub decking?

It depends on your municipality. Free-standing step systems typically do not require permits. Attached platform decks above a certain height usually do. We can advise based on your county and town.

Can you integrate the tub into an existing deck?

Yes — in-deck and partially recessed installations are among our most popular projects. The tub is set into a framed opening in the existing deck structure for a seamless flush look.

Do you do the decking and tub installation together?

Yes, and we recommend it. Doing both together ensures the deck height, access, and layout are perfectly matched to the tub — and saves a second mobilization cost.
